Saying “Yes”

What are we saying “Yes” to in our businesses? A new idea? An employee who disagrees with us? Doing things differently? Or are we saying yes to the status quo, neat boundaries, predictability? The world, and in particular the business world is in a disruptive space. Technology is replacing many of the tasks we do manually. Social media is changing how we interact with each other, how we market our business and who we market to. Millennials are changing the way we will work in the future.

One of my favourite entrepreneurs, motivators and thought leaders-Richard Branson -once said that in his career he often said “yes” to things he couldn’t do so that he could learn how to do it!

So how do we embrace all of this change..should we? Can’t we just go back to the way things were…?

Saying “yes” to change is the biggest gift you can give yourself as an entrepreneur. Change brings energy, stimulation, creativity…if you choose to see it in a rejuvenating light. If you say “yes” to change your mind, you say “yes” to energy, stimulation, creativity. Saying “yes” to change is an act of eating humble pie. What does that mean? It means you will have to go into your “uncomfortable” zone, where lack of competence and self doubt are king/queen.
